The Angelo Caputo's stores are named after their founder, who was brought up in southern Italy with strong family values based on sacrifice and hard work. After serving in the US Army, in 1958 Angelo opened his first neighbourhood market in Elmwood Park, Chicago with his wife, Romana. Their store was different from the others for two reasons: they sold fresh produce from local farmers and they stocked specialty items from around the world, especially his native Italy, to meet the demands of the ever-growing immigrant population. The chain became well-known for its unmistakable Italian style and, with the launch of its La Bella Romana brand of products, soon became a household name nationwide.

We continue to strive to be the freshest, friendliest, and cleanest.
Over the years, first Angelo and his wife and then their daughter Antonella and her husband opened new stores in the Chicago area, upholding the values instilled in them by the founders: celebrate Italian-style food, enjoy meals as a family and eat healthy, locally-sourced food. The family’s philosophy of combining local produce with the finest Italian products is reflected in its prepared foods, which are cooked daily in a kitchen equipped with Giorik appliances: its Steambox Evolution ovens represent the perfect blend of culinary tradition and modern cooking technologies, offering fare that is faithful to the chain’s origins but that also looks to the future.
