If you like bike rides (but are less keen on hard slogs), the perfect route comes courtesy of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region and its Aquileia-Grado cycle path along the Alpe Adria Trail. The path follows the original course of the old railway which once linked Cervignano del Friuli with Belvedere, the last stop where travellers boarded ferries bound for Grado. The path is an easy one, allowing cyclists to take in the beauty of the surrounding countryside, but a refreshing break along the way is welcome nonetheless. Leandro and Margarita are the young proprietors who have recently taken over from the previous owners, and they have every intention of continuing to embrace its philosophy. Break&Bike is a flexible venue verging on the inspired, which welcomes guests at breakfast with mouth-watering brioches with gianduia (chocolate and hazelnut cream), or with a steak at dinnertime, as well as accompanying a glass of fine wine with some music. Such a varied menu calls for an oven that can handle different types of cooking, and also offers high standards in quantitative terms.
